The 13th Annual LSU Graduate Conference Begins

I want to welcome everyone to the 2022 LSU Graduate Conference. This year's conference will consist of a mix of virtual and in-person panels. Furthermore, we are hosting two professional development panels on careers in history, each in a hybrid format.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Tyler Priest, associate professor of history and geography at Iowa University. His current research focuses on the study of environmental history, fossil fuels, and controversies surrounding natural resource extraction.

The professional development panels will take place on Friday and Saturday from 12:30-2:30 pm in the Sternberg Salon Room in the French House. The keynote speech will take place in the same room on Friday, from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Welcome Back Grad Students!

I want to take this time to welcome everyone back for what I hope to be a relative smooth semester here at LSU. In particular, I want to welcome all the incoming and second-year grad students who, for the most part, will be working on campus for the first time. It is our goal for the academic year to help return to some sense of normalcy and provide events and opportunities that foster a positive environment and help you with your professional, social, and academic life.

The HGSA Executive Board has been working hard this summer coming up with potential ideas. We would love your participation and input in developing these. We will be hosting the first official HGSA meeting in the upcoming weeks and should be providing more details once a date and time has been established.

HGSA Spring Celebration

We know that this year has been a weird one for social events and building a community within our department. Especially for our newer students, we understand that the current circumstances may have prevented you from getting to know your fellow colleagues and professors to the degree you wanted. As we return to some sense of normalcy, we want to provide as many opportunities for you to build connections and memories while here at LSU.

In light of this, and the recent changes in the university's policies on social gatherings, we are taking our first cautious steps in hosting an in-person get-together on Saturday, March 27th at City Park. The event will start at 1:30. We recommend that you get there early as lunch will be provided. Tentatively, we will gather near the picnic tables near the dog park. Additional seating will be provided in the form of lawn chairs though feel free to bring your own chairs.

We hope to see all of you there!

2021 Conference and Website

In light of the special circumstances that the COVID-19 epidemic has brought about, the HGSA at Louisiana State University will be hosting its annual conference on March 5th and 6th completely through Zoom. In order to accommodate this change, a separate website (https://lsuhgsaconference.blogspot.com/) has been created to assist all participants in finding their appropriate rooms. Once inside, you can find the links within the Schedule of Events section of the site.

The official conference site is also accessible by selecting HGSA Conference from the right side menu of this blog. From there, you will see links to the official conference website as well as this year's conference program.

We hope you all enjoy what should be a truly engaging experience!
